Maria L. DeMedeiros

Born in Sao Pedro de Nordestinho, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Mariano de Medeiros Borges and Maria de Carmo Carreiro, she came to the United States in 1989 and settled in New Bedford.

Mrs. DeMedeiros enjoyed the comforts of her home. She was a great cook, made delicious soup and enjoyed playing cards with her loving family.

Her family includes her daughter, Gabriela Borges and husband Antonio; two sons, Gilberto Borges and wife Maria and Tomas Borges and wife Ilda all of New Bedford; a brother, Tiago Borges and wife Noemia of Brasil; seven grandchildren, Lisa Franco and husband David of Arizona, Steve Borges of New Bedford, Jason Borges and wife Adrienne of Virginia, Sandra Amaral and husband Steve of Florida, Eddie Borges and wife Sophia of New Bedford, Amy Andre and husband Rick of New Bedford and Meghan Amaral and husband Shawn of New Bedford; eleven great-grandchildren, Noah and Lucas Franco of Arizona, Matthias Borges of Virginia, Jayden and Madison Amaral of Florida, Brandon and Simon Borges of New Bedford, Alivia and Aubrey Andre of New Bedford and Nolan and Vivian Amaral of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Tomas Borges and predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 8 am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford, MA 02746.
