Born in Madeira Island, Portugal, a daughter of the late Silvino deNobrega and Maria Batista deNobrega, she has been a resident of Acushnet since 1968. She was employed as a stitcher at Cameo Curtain for many years.
Maria was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; she enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, sewing, crocheting, walks and international travel. She also enjoyed going on cruises with her husband Aires.
She is survived by her children, Dolores Sullo and her husband Anthony of Peabody, Luis de Sousa and his late wife MaryBeth of New Bedford, Goretti Fitzgibbons and her husband Joseph of Chelmsford, John de Sousa of New Bedford, Leontina (Tina) de Sousa of Acushnet and the late Jose de Sousa; grandmother of Andel and her husband Tony, Jonathan and his wife Bria, Nicole, Jessica, the late Philip, Emily, Lauren, Thomas, Meghan and Lucia; great-grandchildren, Chrystopher and Nico and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose and Luis deNobrega.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 10:30AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, MA 02746. Burial will be private.
