Maria Rosa Tenreiro

Maria Rosa (Duarte) Tenreiro, 96, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home surrounded by her daughters. She was the wife of the late Augusto A. Tenreiro.

Born in Portugal, daughter of the late Maximiano and Silveria (Ribeiro) Duarte, she came to the United States in 1960 and had resided in New Bedford for 60 years.

Mrs. Tenreiro had worked as a nurse in an oncology hospital in Lisbon Portugal and as a seamstress for many years in New Bedford.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and spending time at the beach in earlier years. Most of all, Maria loved being in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Ana Makin of New Bedford and Maria Tassoni and her husband Joseph of Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Bryan Swallow, Craig Swallow and Scott Makin; her great grandchildren, Sydney Swallow, Addison Swallow, Reece Swallow, Olivia Swallow and Caysin Makin; her nieces, Emily Jerome of Freetown and Elizabeth Bairos of Rochester; several great nephews and nieces; and an extended family in Portugal.

Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
