Born in Povoação, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, he was the son of the late José C. Pacheco and Honorina (Cardoso) Pacheco. Mario grew up in Portugal before immigrating to the United States in 1985. His journey from Portugal to Massachusetts shaped the man he became and remained an important part of who he was.
Mario was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. He worked for J. Derenzo Company and was a proud member of Local 151. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built with his coworkers throughout the years.
Outside of work, Mario was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs, Boston Bruins, Liverpool FC, and Benfica. He proudly wore the jerseys of his favorite teams and loved sharing his passion for sports with those around him.
In addition to Monica, Mario is survived by his children, Lucas Pacheco, Isabelle Pacheco, and Noah Pacheco; his four brothers, Luis Pacheco and his wife, Maria; Marcelino Pacheco; José Pacheco and his wife, Shari; and Paul Pacheco and his wife, Maria; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others who will cherish his memory.
Mario will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his strong connection to his Portuguese roots, and his passion for sports. Those who knew him will especially remember his contagious laugh, his willingness to listen, and the genuine kindness he showed to others. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, heard, and valued, and he leaves behind many cherished memories with those who loved him.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be on September 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Everyone is invited directly to the church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, 1100 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 6:00PM- 8:00PM.
