Born on August 1, 1977, Matt was the son of Lucia (Pimentel) Mota and the late Manuel R. Mota. He was raised in New Bedford and was one of nine children.
Matt worked as a roofer and will be remembered most for his incredibly kind and generous heart. He was fiercely loyal to the people he loved and was always willing to help someone in need, truly the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger.
Matt lived a life filled with many experiences and always had a story to tell. He was an incredible storyteller who could bring his experiences to life, often leaving those around him laughing. Matt loved to laugh and had a way of sharing that laughter with everyone around him.
Matt had a special love for his dogs, who were his constant companions and could often be found riding alongside him wherever he went. His generosity, loyalty, sense of humor, and caring nature touched the lives of so many.
Above all, Matt cherished his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving son and brother, beloved uncle, and loyal friend. Matt will be deeply missed by his wife, Renee, his family, and the many people fortunate enough to have known and loved him. The love he gave so freely, the stories he shared, and the memories he created will remain in their hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Trial, his fur kids Gus, Tiny, Uggsie, and Gabby, his mother, Lucia, and his siblings Manuel Jr., David, Daniel, Jason, Christina, Elena, and Julianne Mota. He was predeceased by his father, Manuel R. Mota, his brother, Paul R. Mota and his nephew Tristan Mota.
Matt also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 10am in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarklin Hill Rd., New Bedford, followed by his burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. To place an online tribute or for directions, please visit: www.rock-funeralhome.com
