Michael P. Cravinho, Sr., 80, of New Bedford, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Albert A. and Eunice E. (Normandin) Cravinho.
Michael was the devoted husband of Linda E. (Rumney) Cravinho, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. He attended New Bedford schools and spent his life working with his hands, building, fixing, and creating. A talented carpenter and self-contractor, he worked for many years throughout the community, including the New Bedford School Department, the City of New Bedford, and G. Bourne Knowles in Fairhaven. Known as a true “jack of all trades,” Michael had the remarkable ability to repair anything and everything. He willingly used his gifts to help family, friends, and neighbors—never hesitating to lend a hand.
Michael was a proud man with a gentle smile, a warm sense of humor, and an unwavering dedication to his family. He loved working with his hands and took great joy in bringing ideas to life through his creativity. He will be remembered as an amazing man whose presence, strength, and kindness enriched the lives of all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children: Michael Cravinho Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Freetown, and Kimberly Machado and Stephen Lucia of New Bedford; his step-daughter, Lynne Pires and Roger Daniel of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Kylie Machado, Brianna Machado, and Cameron Bessette, and Allison Cravinho; his step-grandchildren, Amanda Pires and Jeffrey Frias, Ryan Pires and Rachel DeNardo, and Joshua Pires; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Noah and Gabriella Frias. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Plunkett and her husband Robert of Florida, and Linda Simpson and her husband John of Fairhaven, along with many loving nieces and nephews, and a great-grandson expected in January of 2026.
Michael was the brother of the late Albert Cravinho and Sharon Marginson, and was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Ann (Gordon) Cravinho.
A heartfelt thank-you is extended to the Community Nurses of Fairhaven for the compassionate care and support they provided.
