Miriam S. (Oothout) Gurney, 90, of East Freetown, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Gurney with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of late William V. and Agnes V. (Ezyk) Oothout. Miriam attended SMU where she received a certificate in Textile Technology. She worked at Parkwood and St. Luke’s Hospitals in the Emergency Room Admitting office for 27 years.
Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed exploring her family’s genealogy, being the historian at her church, volunteering at the Freetown Historical Society, wood carving, and gardening. Miriam loved life and people in general. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving children, Donald W. Gurney and his wife JoAnn of E. Freetown, and Lauren Collins and her husband Chris of E. Freetown; two grandsons, Craig Collins of E. Freetown, and Justin Collins and his wife Stephanie of Berkley; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lincoln Collins of Berkley; a sister, Ruth Azeredo of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Raymond and William Oothout.
