Nancy Ruth (DeMello) Gonsalves, 82, of New Bedford peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 4, 2020 at St Luke's Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Thomas) DeMello.
Born in New Bedford, Nancy lived there most of her life. She graduated from the New Bedford school system and worked in the area for many years while raising her family. She retired from Frionor USA, Inc., and went on to earn her CNA license and enjoyed working in that capacity for many years.
Family meant everything to Nancy, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn't do for her children and grandchildren. They all knew her love was unwavering. Compassionate and generous, she was always eager to lend a helping hand wherever she saw a need. She was an independent woman who loved doing for others and generously supported many charities. She enjoyed her trips to Florida to visit her children and traveled to Portugal as well. She had many close friends who were very dear to her heart. She enjoyed day trips and luncheons with them as well as bingo and card games at home. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and a smile that would light up a room. She will be sadly missed by many.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Debra Fernandes and her husband Melvin of East Taunton, Cheryle Enos and her husband Shawn of New Bedford, Robert Gonsalves and his wife Vera of Florida and John K. Gonsalves II and Cindy Murphy also of Florida. Her siblings, Carole Rapone of Middleboro, and Janice Westgate of Florida, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ronald DeMello and a great grandchild.
Her visitation will be held on Wednesday December 9th 2020 from 10AM to 12PM in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA, followed by her funeral service at 12PM in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
