Nancy Alice Lucas

Nancy Alice (Buraczenski) Lucas, age 70, of Lakeville died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 11, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was the former wife of Gary F. Lucas of Fairhaven.

A daughter of the late Bernard and Alice (Niedzwiedz), Nancy was born in New Bedford and spent her early years in the city. She moved to Freetown in 1976, and lived there until 2006 when she returned to New Bedford. She recently moved to Lakeville where she lived with her daughter, son in law, and grandchildren.

Nancy graduated from New Bedford High School in 1963 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Westfield State College. Prior to retiring in 2006, she was an Elementary School Teacher in the New Bedford Public School system for 40 years, most notably the Lincoln and Pulaski Schools.

Nancy was active with the Polish Women’s Society, the DKG Regional Teacher’s Sorority, as well as the Teacher’s Bowling League at Wonderbowl. She was a member of St. John Neumann Church and enjoyed shopping, vacationing, watching TV and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Maeghann C.L. Pineault and her husband Bradford R. of Lakeville; her son Andrew P. Lucas and his wife Megan A. of New Bedford; her beloved grandchildren Lucas P. and Finleigh A.L. Pineault and expected twins Gabriel A. and Greyson P.C. Lucas; her brother Bernard Buraczenski and his wife Christine of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 9 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a Memorial Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rte. 6, New Bedford. Visiting hours Thursday, July 23rd from 5 to 8 pm.
