Noemia (Amy) Angelo, age 100, of New Bedford, passed away on June 21, 2026 at Alden Court in Fairhaven after a brief period of declining health. Born on January 20, 1926, in New Bedford, she was a lifelong resident of the city she called home. She was the daughter of the late Amaro and Christina (Rezendes) Carreiro, and a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Noemia was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Angelo, who died in 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Claudia Soares and her husband, Ron; her son, Paul Angelo and his wife, Christine; their three daughters, Lauren Peal and her husband, Matt; Michelle Bingham and her husband, Ryan; and Dr. Nicole Angelo and her husband, Chase Caldwell. Amy is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Aidan, Abigail and Anderson Peal and Claire Bingham, several godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Amy lived a life of warmth and devotion to others. Family was sacred, as were meals together, often including those beyond her own home for lasagna and her famous ice cream pie. A woman of steady faith, she was an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Church (St. Gabriel the Archangel) in New Bedford, where Amy served as a lector and was chosen as their 2007 Marian Medal recipient. Her sense of responsibility and care for others extended beyond her parish life through her volunteer service as a member of St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, and many years of involvement in Cursillos for Christianity, where she and Ed gave their time with constancy and compassion.
With gratitude for the many years we were blessed to have her, the family would like to thank the staff at Alden Court, especially Tracie Smith and Keishla Ortiz, for their kindness, concern and care that meant so much during her last two years and also the residents and families who became friends, enriching her life and theirs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 9:00-10:30 am at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
