Norman Russell Thatcher

Norman R. Thatcher, age 95, of Acushnet passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in Saint Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Rita H. (Feeley) Thatcher with whom they shared 71 years together. Born in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Harold and Irene (Pratt) Thatcher.

Norman worked for Morse Twist Drill and Machine Company in New Bedford for many years. He was a proud Veteran in the United States Army, Military Police and National Guard. He enjoyed playing golf at the Hawthorne Country Club, the outdoors, beach, and cookouts. Norman was known for his kind heart and living life to its fullest. His pride and joy was spending time with his family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Granddaughter and Caretaker Lee-Ann Vaughn devoted her life caring for him. His gentle soul will be missed by many.

He is survived by his children, Diane McGann of FL, Robert Thatcher and his wife Georgia of Fairhaven, Cheryl Thatcher of Somerset, Jean Jorge and her husband Jeremias of Acushnet, Jayne Housewright and her companion Pete Cook of Acushnet, and Norman Thatcher Jr. of Fairhaven; nine grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Leo, Lillian and Violet.
