Normand G. Audette, 75, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital from a short battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Joyce (Smith) Audette, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Laurier and Therese (Robida) Audette.
Normand was a proud graduate of Msgr. Coyle High School, Class of 1968, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 1972. He dedicated 32 years of distinguished service as a Treasury Agent with the IRS, followed by 16 years as a Certified Public Accountant. Deeply committed to his community, he served as Finance Advisor to Mayor Scott Lang and was part-owner of Oak Tree Construction. He also volunteered his time coaching Baystate Softball for 10 years, served as Treasurer at Allendale Country Club, and was an active member of the New Bedford Airport Commission.
A man of strong faith, Normand was an integral part of St. Mary’s Church, where he served on the finance committee, taught and coordinated CCD for more than seven years, and served as treasurer for the district council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He was also a dedicated member of his parish’s SVDP chapter.
Normand’s lifelong dedication to Scouting began in 1958 when he joined Cub Scouts. He became an Eagle Scout in 1963 and continued to serve for many years as an assistant and scout leader at St. Mary’s, as well as a merit badge counselor. He was the youngest scout to receive an adult Bronze Pelican Medal from the Moby Dick Council and was also honored with the Pope Pius Award from the Cachalot Council, along with the Ad Altare Dei and Parvuli Dei awards.
An avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, Normand also loved golfing, serving his community, and generous donations to animal rescue. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, he is survived by his loving children: Christie-Beth Ventura and her husband Jose of Rhode Island; Laurier “Larry” Audette of Brockton; and Amanda Audette-Ornelas and her husband Zachary of Virginia. He was a proud grandfather “Poppop” to Natalia, Madison, Giulianna, and Gabriella Ventura, all of Rhode Island, with another grandchild expected in May 2026.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 9:00 AM from Rock Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
