

Born in Achadinha, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Joao Tavares Couto and Maria L. (Frias) Couto, he resided in New Bedford most of his life.
Olimpio was a devoted laborer and construction worker for Cardi Corp. for over 30 years. He was a member of the Local 271 Union of Rhode Island.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his children, Andrew A. Tavares and his wife Tania of Acushnet; Amanda E. Tavares of New Bedford; 2 step children, Jessica and Vanessa Borges of New Bedford; 3 brothers, Jose Augustinho and his wife Lisete of New Bedford; Walter Couto and his wife Alda of New Bedford; Joao A. Couto of New Bedford; 6 sisters, Dina Miranda and her husband Antonio, Fatima Viveiros and her husband Manny, Eduarda Medeiros and her husband Horacio, Zelia Couto and her husband Aguinaldo, Helena Tavares and her husband Ernesto all of New Bedford; Delia Ferreira and her husband Artur of Lakeville and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joao Brito Tavares and Rosa Farias.
His funeral will be held Friday, July 12th, at 9 am at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford followed by a celebration of life at 10 am at The Christian Fellowship Center Assembly of God, 822 Church Street New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 11th from 6-9pm.
