

Omer J. “Pep” Pepin, age 93, of Mattapoisett, died Sunday, October 23, 2011 in Sippican Healthcare Center. He was the husband of the late Blanche M. (Levasseur) Pepin married 44 years, and mother of their nine children; Irene (Davignon) Pepin and Germaine (Mathieu) Surprenant Pepin.
Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Aime and Blanche (Doucet) Pepin, he was a long time area resident. Mr. Pepin was employed with the State of Massachusetts in the Parks and Recreation Department where he worked at the Skating Rink as a Zamboni Driver until his retirement in 1979. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Mattapoisett, Our Lady of Fatima in New Bedford, St. John Newman in E. Freetown, and St. Francis Xavier in Acushnet. Mr. Pepin is also retired as a Master Sergeant from the Army Air Corp where he served his country for 22 years in the Panama Canal, Pearl Harbor, HI, Korea, Stuttgart, Germany and Fort Monmouth, NJ until his honorable discharge in 1959. He was known by many as the man with all the jokes, and was an avid golfer and member of the Rochester Golf Club where he held a record for the lowest score on the original 9 hole course.
He is survived by nine children; Louis Pepin and his wife Anne of Rochester, NY; Annette Copeland and her husband Peter of Conway, SC; Simone Carvalho and her husband Robert of Fairhaven; Dennis Pepin and his wife Lorrie of Acushnet; Marguerite “Maggie” Moniz and her husband Richard of Westport; Donald Pepin and his wife Sally of Dartmouth; Jocelyn White and her husband Gary of Mattapoisett; Germaine Vigers and her husband Richard of Lakeville; and Charles Pepin of Acushnet; a brother Norman Pepin and sister Adrienne "Dee" Oliveira both of Acushnet; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two others on the way, and many nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by five siblings.
His Funeral will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at 8:30AM from the Rock Funeral Home 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Anthony’s Church, 22 Barstow St. Mattapoisett. Visiting hours Thursday from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to St. Anthony’s Church. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
