Born and raised in New Bedford, Pat was the daughter of the late John and Lydia (Santos) Cotta, Jr. of New Bedford. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, Pat was a devoted Catholic and parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph - St. Therese Parish of New Bedford and a member of the Legion of Mary of St. Joseph - St. Theresa. Pat worked at Fairhaven Corporation for 28 years and Sacred Heart Nursing Home for over 30 years.
Pat was a uniquely independent woman for her time and took pride in her independence. She was a hardworking woman who continued working until the age of 80 as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Home. She took pride in her work, forming lifelong friendships and believing her care helped bring peace and comfort to the residents.
An avid animal lover, Pat believed animals were remarkably intelligent and among the best of companions. She fondly remembered her cat, Ginger, who kept her company during times of illness, and she never went to the grocery store without bringing home carrots for the bunnies in her yard. Pat also found joy in nature, often admiring springtime blossoms, pink flowers, and beautiful sunsets.
She is survived by her son, Paul Andrew LaFrance of Winder, GA, her sister-in-law Rita Cotta of Dartmouth, her nephew Corey Cotta and his wife Cindy of Lakeville and her great-niece and caretaker, Tyler Cotta, and her husband Parker of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Lt. Kenneth Cotta of Dartmouth and the late John Cotta, III.
