

Paul was the son of the late Henry Everette Guilbeault and Jeannette Emma (Pepin) Guilbeault.
A dedicated veteran, Paul served in the Naval Reserves before joining the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a jet engine specialist. His exemplary service earned him the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He later dedicated his time to managing the VFW Poirier Post in New Bedford until the age of 89.
After his honorable service, Paul founded his own business, Homestead Aluminum roofing and siding. He later worked as manager/supervisor for various manufacturing companies in the New Bedford area.
Paul was a pioneering figure and had a lifelong passion for the martial arts. While in the Air Force, stationed in Japan, Paul studied both Judo and Ju-Jitsu. Pursuing his love for martial arts, he later acquired the rank of Rokudan-6th degree Red and White belt in Ju-Jitsu, and 4th degree black belt in Judo. He began teaching martial arts in 1956 after returning from the service. He eventually founded his own school, The Tonan Judo Club. Paul was instrumental in establishing Judo in the South Coast area. He continued to teach martial arts inspiring countless others of all ages through discipline, integrity, and skill for over 70 years. He was inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2003 receiving the Pioneer Award.
Paul will be remembered as a devoted spouse, parent, and friend. He always led by example showing unwavering strength and integrity in all aspects of his life. We will remember him for his unique sense of humor and the laughter we shared together. His presence was a constant source of stability for everyone that shared in his life.
Paul was married to his beloved wife, Jacqueline Y. (Pellerin) Guilbeault, for 69 years. He is survived by their son, Michael Guilbeault and his wife Terri-Ann; their daughter, Suzanne Thompson, and her late husband David; their daughter, Caroline Guilbeault and her significant other, Antonio DeCruz; their son, Matthew Guilbeault and his wife Pam. Paul was the proud grandfather to Andrew Guilbeault and his wife Kate; Adam Guilbeault and his wife Jennifer; Sarah Thompson and her husband Kasper; Bennett and Lainey Guilbeault, and great-grandfather to Audrey, Madeline, Isabella, and Allan. He also leaves behind his sister, Pauline Boisvert.
Private services are in the care of Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
