Born in East Providence, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Frank G. and Zulmira (Pina) Penha. He graduated from East Providence High School, where his journey as a lifelong learner and community man began.
Paul dedicated 38 years of hard work and integrity to Drakes Bakeries as a trusted and respected salesman. But his true life's work was rooted in faith, family, and music.
A devout Catholic, Paul was a devoted communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church, where he and his wife found joy in sharing their devotion to the church. His deep faith was matched only by his deep baritone voice, known and loved by all who heard it. Music was in Paul’s soul—he began playing guitar at 15 and never stopped. He had a special love for Cape Verdean music, which connected him to his roots and often filled his home with warmth, rhythm, and memory.
Paul was a man who found joy in simple pleasures: cheering for the New York Yankees, traveling near and far, and spending treasured time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He was also known to offer sound financial wisdom to those around him.
He is survived by his loving children, Bernadette and her husband Rodney, Eric and his wife Andrea, Robert, Julia, William and Jennifer; his sister Josephine Braz; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother to the late Irene, Domingo, Frank, and George.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10a.m. in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 125 Main St., Acushnet followed by burial at Pine Grove Cemetery. Paul's life was a harmony of love, faith, and laughter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him—not just for the songs he sang or the advice he gave, but for the kindness, humor, and unwavering strength he brought to every moment.
As we say goodbye, we raise a glass in his honor—and as Paul would say, "I'll drink to that."
