Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Alfred Souza and Serafina (Correia) Souza.
Paul was the beloved husband of Dorothy Souza, with whom he shared an “unforgettable” 70 years of love, companionship, and devotion.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Paul was employed as a truck driver for the City of New Bedford for 30 plus years. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Private First Class (PFC). His military service reflected the sense of duty, honor, and dedication that he carried throughout his life.
Paul cherished time spent with his family and found great joy in playing cards and visiting the casino. Known for his kindness and generosity, he had a warm heart and remarkable ability to make others feel welcome. A natural jokester, he loved making people laugh and bringing smiles to those around him. He also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in nurturing and perfecting his garden, creating a beautiful space that reflected his patience, care, and dedication.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Paula Souza and her wife Marilyn of Dartmouth, Lori Cormier and her husband Bob of New Bedford and Linda Vieira and her husband Tony of New Bedford; four grandchildren Justin, Stephanie, Jessica, and Julia; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his four sisters and two brothers.
Paul will be remembered for his steadfast character, his devotion to his family, and the many lives he touched through both his work and service. He leaves behind cherished memories that will be held close by all who knew and loved him. As Paul would say with wit and charm, “thanks for coming, thanks for going.”
His visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM followed by a service at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd. New Bedford, MA. 02745.
