Born in Maine, a son of the late Treffle and Medora (LeClair) Poulin, he resided in Maine and New Hampshire prior to moving to New Bedford in 1957.
Robert served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a machine operator at Borg-Warner until his retirement in 1988. He was a communicant of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, a life member and past Post Commander of the VFW Poirier Post #3260, a life member of the American Legion Post 0459, New Bedford, a member of the Lakeville Eagles (FOE), a member of the Association Canada Americaine and a past member of the Seams Squirrel Greater New Bedford Pup Tent 8 (Military Order of the Cootie). His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his son, Richard R. Poulin and his wife Diane (Bumpus) of New Bedford; a daughter Pauline Dube and her husband Richard of Fairhaven; 3 brothers, Bertrand, Albert and Normand Poulin, 2 sisters, Angeline Merrill and Mary Jane Girouard, 5 grandchildren, Richard Dube, Michelle Poulin, Timothy Dube, Danielle Poulin and Bobbie Haskell, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Paul and Victor Poulin, Denise Goulet, Marie Courerie, Rita Rancourt and Helen Poulin.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 9 am at the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 am at the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 121 Mt Pleasant Street, New Bedford. Burial to follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108.
