Robert known to most as Bob was a go-getter from the beginning. He first worked in retail at Jones Cut Rate as a young man for many years and then venturing off starting his own businesses. He started in antiques which then led into combining his love of retail, people and flowers by forming The Potting Bench Inc. in 1976 which became a staple in the North End community of New Bedford. For many years his mother Alice along with his brother Richard and other family members worked by his side, truly a family owned business. Whether he was putting his many nieces and nephews to work or his grandchildren Lauren & Zac, he instilled a great work ethic. He gave many high school students their first job and many worked through their college years and still pop in to fill in during holidays.
Bob was a compassionate softy who was extremely generous to the areas local Churches, Schools, various Charities and private fundraisers in addition to sponsoring the Miss New Bedford Pageant for many, many years.
He fought a courageous battle over the last few years with never a complaint. His Family would like to extend their great appreciation and love to the Southcoast VNA Supportive Care team who took great care of him with such compassion. A special thank you to Kaylee, Jodi, Vicki, Aaron and May, all with the VNA, you are truly angels on earth.
