Roger D. Deschamps, age 89, of Acushnet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Tobey Hospital.Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Roger and Mary Jane (Bertrand) Deschamps. Roger was the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (Silveira) Deschamps, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage and family life.
A graduate of New Bedford High School, Roger was a man of immense dedication and a tireless work ethic. For 30 years, he served as a police officer with the Town of Acushnet, protecting and serving his community with honor and integrity. During his distinguished career, he earned many awards and commendations for his unwavering commitment to public safety. Beyond his police work, Roger was an entrepreneur and a provider. He worked hard throughout his life as the owner and operator of the beloved local pizza shop, D&D Pizza, and ran a postal contract business, ensuring bulk mail reached area post offices. In his earlier years, he delivered milk for White’s Dairy. Roger’s life was defined by his strong values, his love for family, and his deep commitment to providing for those he loved, a principle he instilled in his children with reminders that hard work brings its own reward.
A devoted fan of Louis L’Amour novels, he found joy in reading and listening to country music. He was also a proud member of the Lions Club, where he received many awards, and a member of the NRA.
Roger had many passions and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, collecting coins, buying scratch tickets, going to the casino, and watching old cowboy movies. His love for the outdoors and adventure was most evident in his lifelong passion for hunting. For over 40 years, he made annual hunting trips to Canada and Maine, creating a tradition that was about much more than the hunt itself. These journeys were where he forged unbreakable, lifelong friendships and found joy in simple pleasures like speaking French and sharing stories around the camp.
Above all, Roger was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was always his main priority, and he cherished every moment spent with them, creating a legacy of love that will be remembered forever. He loved gathering his family together, sharing stories, and offering advice born from a life of hard work and unwavering love.
