Roger Souza

Roger Souza, age 89, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Vieira) Souza, with whom he shared over 30 devoted and loving years.

Born and raised in New Bedford, Roger was the son of the late Julius and Georgianna (Correia) Souza. A dedicated and talented barber, Roger owned and operated Roger's Hairstyling on Nauset Street for many years. Later, he proudly served as the barber for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy for two decades until his retirement in 2013.

Roger had a deep love for the water. He especially enjoyed boating and fishing and was a longtime member of the Acushnet River Safe Boating Club and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #5, Division 6 District INR. Known for his warm personality and zest for life, Roger also found great joy in dancing and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by his sons, Mark Souza and his wife Cindy of Freetown, and Scott Souza and his wife Christine of Fairhaven. He is also lovingly remembered by his stepchildren: Cheryl Fredette of Dartmouth, Michael Cabral and his partner Peter Scott of Boston, Lisa Cabral of New Bedford, and Tracy Cabral of New Bedford. He leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Roger was predeceased by his stepson, Stephen Cabral, and his siblings, William, Raymond, Donald, Richard, and Dorothy Souza.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Roger’s granddaughter, Lauren Beaudoin for her help during this time of need. 

His visitation will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 12:00 -4:00 PM at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd. New Bedford. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM. Burial will be private.
