Ronald Froias, 77, of Acushnet, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Joanne (Grasela) Froias with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Dartmouth, MA, he was the son of the late Manuel and Helen (Aguiar) Froias. He resided in Acushnet for the past 45 years.
Mr. Froias was a successful electrician, who began his career working at Lincoln Park in Dartmouth, MA and Peirce and Haworth in Mattapoisett, MA. He was an electrician for Shaw’s Supermarkets for 32 years, until retirement in 2012.
Ron enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing on his boat. An avid sports enthusiast, Ron was a Little League and Pony League coach and umpire. He also coached youth basketball and bowling. Ron was very fond of animals, especially his dogs. After retiring, he enjoyed daily meet-ups, with his friends, for coffee. Most of all, Ron cherished the time spent with his loving family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Joanne, are his children: Lorrie Boardman and her husband Jeffery of Acushnet, Christine Froias and her husband Joseph Prunier of Acushnet, and Joseph Froias and his wife Cristiana of New Bedford; his sister: Dorothy Ibrahim of Acushnet; his grandchildren: Curtis Boardman and his husband Jared, Brian Boardman, and Jennifer Boardman and her husband Daniel; three step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, January 14 2021 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. graveside service at Tabor Cemetery in Acushnet. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lighthouse Animal Shelter in New Bedford, or the Sidewalk Angels foundation.
