

Rosemary (Gullace) Costa, 101, of New Bedford passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, in St. Luke’s Hospital after a very brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late James Costa with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Waverly, NY, she grew up in Baltimore, MD where she would eventually meet her future husband who was stationed there. After his return from WWII, they married and moved to his hometown of New Bedford where they would raise their family, and she would spend the rest of her life.
Rosemary worked as a telephone operator, a stitcher at Economy Blouse, retiring from Kay Windsor as a packer. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting her famous dish cloths, trips to the casino and watching all Boston sports teams. She will be remembered for always having a candy bowl full of chocolates waiting for whomever stopped in for a visit.
She is survived by her children, Janet P. Beauregard and her husband Ronald of E. Freetown, Catherine DeMello and her husband John of New Bedford and Lori Dumas and her husband Victor of New Bedford; grandchildren, Lisa Columbus, Adam Beauregard, Kasey L’Heureux and her husband Brian, and Ian Dumas; great grandchildren, Mya, Alex, Josie and Rhys and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother “Tony” and her sisters “Ann” and “Cass”.
Her funeral will be Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. from Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
