Rui S. Nunes

Rui S. Nunes, 65, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 20, 1961, in Funchal, Madeira, Rui came to the United States at the age of 3. He was the beloved son of the late Manuel Nunes and the late Celina Gisilda (Vieira Faria) Nunes.

Rui devoted 30 years of steady, honorable work as an auto parts salesman at LaCava & Sowersby Auto Parts, now known as Fisher Federated Auto Parts, until his retirement. Known for his dependable presence and practical knowledge, he approached his work with quiet pride and a consistent commitment that earned the respect of those around him.

Rui found deep joy in the simple, lasting pleasures of life—time spent fishing, a love of the ocean, and the thrill of car racing. He enjoyed watching races at Seekonk Speedway, was a devoted fan of the Boston Bruins, and a self-taught guitar player. He dearly loved his cat, Bandit, and held close the comforts of home and companionship. Above all, Rui’s family—his children and grandchildren—were the light of his life, and he was loved by all who knew him.

Rui is survived by his former wife, Kristie (Gibeault) Mejias; his children, Kyle Nunes, Rui Steven Sebastian Nunes and spouse Amber, Kiara Gibeault and significant other Jeffrey, Cheyenne Gibeault and significant other Juan, Tarteanna Gibeault and significant other Sidney, Jonathan Gibeault and Robert Gibeault; his siblings, Steven Nunes, Theresa Medeiros, Paula Cohen, Tony Nunes; and his grandchildren, Audri’Ella, Steven, Zayla, Jaylynn, Serenity, Jonathan, Amiaha, Jeremiah, Aliziyana, Jamerson, Star'Leah and Sky'Laeh. Rui is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jorge Nunes and Pedro Nunes.

Visiting hours will be held at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
