Shirley Alice Duarte, 82, of Alden Court, Fairhaven, formerly of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of declining health and complications of Covid 19. She was the daughter of the late Helen Philomena Souza and Milton Chase.
Born in New Bedford, she was a life-long resident of the city. Shirley enjoyed her work as a nurse’s aide and activities director at area nursing homes. She was employed as resident manager at Rol Ann Rest Home for 17 years and ended her career as activities director at Brandon Woods in Dartmouth.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Gage. She loved her cruises to the Caribbean with family and friends; trips to area casinos and arts & crafts projects.
Shirley is survived by her children, Steven E. Duarte and his wife Janine of Dartmouth, David J. Duarte and his fiancé Jeanne MacLean of Middleboro and Daniel R. Duarte and his wife Jenn of Dartmouth; and a grandson, Gage J. Duarte of Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edna Ford and Faith Sylvia.
In accordance with her wishes’ all services will be private with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
