Simone O. Plante

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosalma (Tetreault) Rock, she lived in New Bedford until moving to Acushnet in 1968. A graduate of New Bedford High School, Simone worked in the Auto parts industry for over 25 years as a bookkeeper for Goyette Auto Parts and later Sylvia Auto Parts.

She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, crocheting, and spending time with her sisters. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved them dearly.

Simone is survived by her two children, Suzette M. Vermilya and her husband Tom of W. Wareham, and Arthur J. Plante and his wife Laurie of Mattapoisett; seven grandchildren, Paige, Jordan, Kyle and Shane Vermilya, Zoe Plante, Taylor and Nikolas Coelho; three sisters, Florence Dugal, Yvonne Silvia and Genevieve Linhares; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Plante was also the grandmother of the late Jacob Vermilya and sister of the late, Alfred, Joseph, Arthur, Raymond, Gerald and Daniel Rock, Rita Picard, and Theresa Goyette.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Please wear a colorful outfit to celebrate Simone’s life. Her burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Southcoast Cancer Care, 206 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719 or do a good deed for someone else.
