Simonne Cusson was born in New Bedford, MA on December 7th 1923. She was the 7th of 9 children born to Antoinette and Clement Gelinas. She married Paul E. Cusson on August 25th 1945. They had three children, Paul, George and John. She passed away after a long illness on October 24th. She was 95 years old.

Simonne worked as a seamstress and was known for her outstanding and creative sewing capabilities. She taught her nieces along the way and would instruct them that “The inside of your apparel must be as neat and tidy as the exterior”. She also ran a cottage industry from her home where she created and sold aprons and kitchen wear throughout the New Bedford area.

Simonne was an active member at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic church. She volunteered on many church projects but was particularly well known for running the weekly Bingo event. In 1981 she received the Marian Medal award in recognition of her outstanding service in parish apostolates. She was incredibly organized and often sought out for her organizational leadership capabilities.

There was nothing more important to Simonne than family. She was devoted to her husband Paul until he passed away in 1993. She was always available to her sons whether it be for babysitting, weekly luncheons or simply as a caregiver. She remained very close to her brothers and sisters. The sisters and nieces got together on Friday nights for over 50 years for a ‘sewing circle’ where over the years sewing needles were replaced with Poker cards.

Simonne is survived by her three sons and their spouses. Paul and Nancy of Dartmouth, John and Nicky of New Bedford and George and Susan of Purcellville, Virginia. In addition she is survived by her two sisters Edna Arcouette and Theresa Quintin, six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

A wake will occur from 5 to 8 PM on October 29th at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. Funeral services will take place at 10 am on October 30th at St Anthony Catholic Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford, MA 02746. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
