Steven's family was central to his life, and he is survived by his children, Geoffrey Brauch and his wife Tara of Arizona, and Shannon Brantley of New Jersey. His family also includes his stepchildren Kristen Niebuhr of Connecticut, and Kent Niebuhr and his wife of Shirley. He leaves behind his siblings, Gary Brauch and his wife Diane of California, Jeffrey Brauch of Florida, and Alexandra Gilbert and her husband Bruce of Georgia. Steven was a proud grandfather to twenty grandchildren.
In his personal life, Steven was a passionate musician with a love for folk music. He was very active and enjoyed kayaking, biking, and traveling with Madeline, exploring the world together.
