Born in New Bedford, Steve graduated from Holy Name School and later received an associate’s degree from Bristol Community College. He then went on to a lengthy career of 44 years for Sears, retiring as the operation manager in 2015.
Steve is remembered by his family and friends for his sarcasm, quick wit, political commentary, and being an avid conspiracy theorist. He was happiest when spending time with his family. Of all the roles he held in life, being a grandfather was his favorite. His hobbies included tinkering in the workshop, fishing, playing guitar and a love for cooking. He was also an active member of the High Hill Fox & Coon Club, where he enjoyed spending most of his time and creating lasting memories with his grandson, forming a special bond that they both cherished.
He is survived by his children, Aaron Gabriel and his companion Christal Chase, Kira Gabriel and Jennifer Mooney and her husband Paul; his grandchildren Amya Mooney, Abbey, Tavis and Hannah Gabriel; and a sister Doreen Richard.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 9:30 to 11:30AM followed by a funeral service at 11:30AM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited.
