Trefton A. Soucy Jr.
September 21, 1938 – December 27, 2020
Trefton Austin Soucy, Jr. passed away on December 27, 2020 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He had been in declining health for several years. Trefton “Ted” was born in New York City on September 21, 1938. He attended schools in New Bedford, Massachusetts, graduating from New Bedford High School in 1955.
Upon graduation, he entered Swain School of Design to follow his passion for painting. Eventually, he decided to become a teacher and graduated from Bridgewater State Teacher’s College, now Bridgewater State University. After graduation he took a job teaching at Fort Greeley, Alaska. When he returned to New Bedford, he became a teacher in the New Bedford school system where he remained until his retirement. He moved to Florida and became involved in genealogy. He did extensive research on the Soucy and Spencer family trees. He had a lifelong love of painting that continued in retirement.
He is survived by his sister, Eileen Caron and her husband, Albert, of Marion, his niece, Stephanie Clark, her husband, Jason, and grandnephew, Jack, of Mattapoisett, and his niece, Andrea Bergner, her husband, Andrew, and grandniece, Juliette, of Bridgewater.
