Vivian I. Laporte

Vivian I. (Hebert) Laporte, 85, of Acushnet, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her devoted family following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Normand R. Laporte for 60 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Felix D. and Anna (Fredette) Hebert, Vivian was a resident of Acushnet for 48 years. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet.

Upon her graduation from New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Campbell Business School she was employed at the Acushnet Process as a Secretary. After raising her family, she was employed at the Outlet Department Store.

Vivian took great pride in her lifelong role as a dedicated wife and mother. She was an inspiration to her entire family as a mother, mémère and great-grandma. Her kind, gentle heart and selfless nature touched the lives of many and she will be greatly missed.

Vivian enjoyed singing in the church choir, attending the theater, reading and vacations on Cape Cod.

Survivors include her five children, Diane Donovan and her husband William of Dartmouth, Christine Messier and her husband Glenn of Fairhaven, David Laporte and his wife Michelle of New Bedford, Jeanne Laporte of Rochester and Peter Laporte and his wife Joyce of Florida; seven grandchildren-Lauren, Jenna, Kelly, Christopher, Andrew, Carissa and Mathew; two great-grandchildren-Dayton and Alivia; a sister, Jeanne Simmons and her husband, Richard of Acushnet and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Felix D. Hebert, Jr., Norman Hebert and Roland Hebert.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 9AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, 125 Main St., Acushnet. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8PM. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
