Wilfred was born in New Bedford on March 31, 1931, the son of the late Origene and Leona (Ethier) Coulombe.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and lived in New Bedford all of his life.
In his younger years he was an avid fisherman. He would enjoy weekly fishing trips with his family and kept his family and friends supplied with fish nine months of the year. He was a dedicated father and unselfishly shared his time and talent with his children.
He retired from the railroad and pursued his hobbies which included fishing, all forms of home, auto and boat repair and helping his family and friends with various odd jobs on their property, with their businesses and home modifications.
Survivors include: three sons, Brian and his wife Theresa of Old Lyme, CT, Gary of New Bedford and Marc of Savannah, GA; his siblings Laurier, Maurice, Donald, Roland, Roger, Annette Phenix, Yvette Fenton and Therese Phenix, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Lionel, Romeo, Lucien, Jean-Marie, Richard, Gerard, and his sisters Lucille Lafrance, Marie-Ange Ledoux and Rita Dupont.
His funeral will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 8am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a funeral mass at 9am in St. Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8pm. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
