

William “Bill” C. Sturtevant, 69, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Denise (Caron) Sturtevant. His passing occurred on a day of profound significance, his and his beloved wife’s 51st wedding anniversary. A testament to the enduring bond they shared.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Elwood and Lillian (Dutra) Sturtevant, Jr. He was a lifelong area resident and a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
Bill served in the Army National Guard. He was a tractor trailer driver for Sysco of Boston and retired in 2020.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, visiting wineries with his wife, and traveling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Sturtevant, Jr. of Dartmouth; a daughter, Beth Mitchell and her husband Matt of Norwood; four grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Thomas, and Alice; siblings, Elwood Sturtevant, III and his wife Connie, Carol Tavares and her husband Dave, James Sturtevant and his companion Teresa, Anna Diggle and her husband Dana, and Donna Oliveira and her husband Jim; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joyce Ward.
His funeral will be Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
