He graduated from Chatham Glenwood High School.
Derek is survived by his parents, Robert and Connie Johnson of Springfield; siblings, Becky (Bill) Yates, Kevin (Michelle), Carol, Bob (Marlo), and Tim (Madchen) Johnson; four nieces; four nephews; two great-nephews; and one great-niece.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
A private graveside ceremony will be held.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-New Berlin, 714 East Gibson St., New Berlin, IL.
