Fred J. Eckhardt Jr.

He was born in Springfield on August 23, 1950, the son of Frederick J., Sr. and Alberta (Sanders) Eckhardt.

Fred graduated from New Berlin High School in 1969 and earned his associate’s degree from Springfield College. He went on to work in accounting for the Illinois Department of Revenue for over 30 years before retiring in 2002, which blessed him with the opportunity to become a fully present father for his son, Chris. Fred enjoyed watching old westerns, running, reading the newspaper, learning about stocks, living off the grid, and watching his son play sports - especially soccer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

Fred is survived by his son, Chris (Jennifer) Eckhardt.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, until the time of the Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at Butler Funeral Home- New Berlin, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin.

Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Berlin.
