

Lawrence “Larry” Richard Carlson, 64, of Springfield, IL, originally of New Berlin, IL, died at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Larry is survived by his wife, Brenda Lee Carlson and two sisters, Nancy Luann Carlson (Mike Heddleston) and Lynnette Rae Carlson (Joni Reagan).
Larry was born at the hospital in Clinton, IN, on November 8, 1960, the day John F. Kennedy was elected to be the 35th President of the United States. His parents were Virginia Lea Carlson and F. Richard Carlson of Terre Haute, IN. Larry grew up in New Berlin, IL, where he attended school from kindergarten to high school. In 1978, he won the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award.
He started his academia in August of 1978 at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Larry graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in School of Forestry-Outdoor Recreation of Resource Management.
Larry returned to Springfield to work for Bud Hunter, maintaining and renovating the apartment properties that Mr. Hunter owned. He had four separate rental apartments: Walnut Manor, BC Rentals, Fredricks Apartments, and Cookfield Apartments. Larry purchased the Cookfield Apartments in 1989 from Hunter and began his 35-year career as a landlord. He enjoyed the challenges of providing quality homes for scores of people over the years. He retired in 2023.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Central Baptist Church, 600 W. Birch St., New Berlin, IL.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Tony Stang officiating. Burial will follow at Woodwreath Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Lincoln Memorial Garden and Nature Center at lincolnmemorialgarden.org in memory of Larry Carlson.
