

Seymour “Sy” Lawrence Haber, 94, of Springfield, IL, was ushered into the presence of his savior, Jesus, on Monday, March 3, 2025. He was the husband of the late Norma Goldstein Haber for almost 53 years and the late Judie Baker Haber for 11 years.
He was born on April 17, 1930, in Bronx, NY, to Lawrence and Marion Haber, both of whom predeceased him. Seymor and Norma had five children: Rev. Dr. Roger (Nanci) Haber of Coatesville, PA, Barbara (Terry) Haber Dowds of New Berlin, Laurence (Shelley) Haber of Rechovot, Israel, Steven (Eric Korpon) Haber of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Laurie (David) Haber Zike of Chattanooga, TN. Sy was also a stepfather to Judie’s children and had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Since moving to Springfield, Sy made many friends who visited with him frequently in his last years.
Seymour Haber served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1954. He served on the U.S.S. Kearsarge during the Korean War. He also served in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1990. Between his Navy and Coast Guard years, he was an electrician and ran a vacuum and bicycle repair business.
He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. Sy was a Sunday School teacher and leader of Christian Service Brigade at the First Baptist Church of Central Islip, NY. He was also a member of Hope Church in Springfield, IL.
A graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL, on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and U.S. Navy.
