Alessandro Cagiati, 68, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022, at home. He was born to the late Alessandro and Joy Cagiati in Frankfurt, Germany on June 6, 1954. He spent his childhood in Washington DC, Trinidad, and Beverly Farms, Massachusetts. He attended St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts and received his BS in Natural Sciences from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Alessandro could accomplish anything he set his mind to and was always willing to help someone in need. He enjoyed gardening, scuba diving, fishing, travel, photography, and most of all his pottery. Always a perfectionist, he would break any piece of pottery that he didn’t think was worthy to be called art.
Always pursuing his passions, he worked as an arborist for his own business. He became a talented carpenter and photographer. These skills took him to the West Coast where he worked on movie sets and then as a photojournalist for NBC and CBS Sports. Returning to Massachusetts he rediscovered his love for the ocean and started another career as a commercial fisherman and diver. Shortly after moving to North Carolina, he found a new passion in creating art through his pottery.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Cagiati, his brother Anthony Cagiati, Stepson Bruce Goodson, Kinston, NC, and stepdaughter Heather Tankersley, Austin, TX and many loving family members and close friends. Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Alessandro Cagiati.
