Ann Faye Perry

Born April 13th, 1942, in Henderson, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Ed and Annie Mae Newman. Faye grew up primarily on her grandmother’s farm before moving to Wilson, where she graduated from Fike High School in 1960. In April 1963, at the age of 21, she married Ted Perry. The couple moved several times as Ted coached high school football, and in 1981 they settled in New Bern with their two children, Mike and Sharon.

Faye was the bedrock of the Perry household. She raised her children while working at the New Bern Coca Cola plant as well as the YMCA. A devoted supporter of New Bern High School athletics, she was known as “Momma Bear” to all the football players of the early and mid 1980’s. A wonderful cook, she welcomed players and coaches into her home every week for a home-cooked meal.

She loved the beach, reading, crosswords, Duke sports, beach music, and more than anything time spent with people she cared about. She was a devoted wife and mother whose warmth and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Annie Mae Newman, and by her husband, Ted Perry. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Mike and Sandra Perry of New Bern, and her daughter and son in law Sharon and Ken Woodard, also of New Bern. She is survived by five grandchildren, Stephen and Mathew Perry as well as Malorie, Perri and Michael Woodard, and two great grandchildren, Thomas and Lucas Perry.

The family will host a small memorial service at a future date.
