Barbara Stevenson Bennett

Barbara Stevenson "Stevie" Bennett, 75, of New Bern passed away on January 1, 2021. Stevie was born on September 20, 1945 in New Bern, North Carolina to the late, Mack Franklin and Dorothy Thomason Bennett.

Stevie was a 1963 graduate of New Bern High School, and earned her bachelor of science degree from East Carolina University and her Medical Technology Degree from UNC Chapel Hill. In addition to being a career medical technologist she was an accomplished artist which was her other career. She follows in her fathers footsteps and was a strong advocate and campaigned for citizens rights in New Bern. She loved animals and did volunteer work for Colonial Capital Humane Society. She was very involved in the Preservation of the Riverside Neighborhood and historical downtown New Bern where she was a dedicated member of P.L.A.T.

A life long New Bernian, who had deep family roots and a love for her hometown and a commitment to preserving its historical value and small town charm.

She is survived by her sister, Mandi Bennett Johnson and husband Oogie of New Bern, her nephew, Parker Allen Bennett and sister in law, Lisa Oliver Bennett of Atlantic Beach, cousins; Becky Thomason Blackmon of Charlotte and Robert Thomason of Washington DC.

She is predeceased by her brothers; Robert Andrew Bennett and Christopher Vincent Bennett.

Her family would like to thank her doctor, Dr. Matt Smith for his many years of care and a special thanks to her caregivers; Racquel Alford, Lakisha Brown Bennett, "Kiki ", Lori Newkirk Baker, Jana Spellman, "Niki ", and Bernetta Whitaker for their daily loving care. A very special thank you for life long family friend, Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Robinson for being her second Mother and loving her like a daughter.

A memorial donation can be made in her honor to Colonial Capital Humane Society.
