Barbara Leonard Godwin passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, at The Carrolton of Nash in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Barbara was a member of Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church in New Bern. She enjoyed bowling, painting ceramics, and making afghans for those she loved. She was also a wonderful cook, especially known for her delicious homemade yeast rolls. Above all, Barbara cherished her family and the time she spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey M. Godwin; her brother, Johnnie Leonard; and her sisters, Ruby and Elizabeth Odham.
Barbara is survived by six children, Ricky Riggan, Paula Mercer and husband Freddie, Cheryl Oliver and husband Mike, Harvey Godwin Jr. and wife Christal, Robbie Godwin and wife Phyllis, and Brian Godwin and wife Tatiana; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Sherwood Forest Free Will Baptist Church in New Bern. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Barbara will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at New Bern Memorial Cemetery following the service.
