She was born on August 16,1948 in Corning, New York to Mary and Henry Fisher. She was a loving wife to Reinhold Wind for 50 years. Barbara and Reinhold were married on May 8, 1976, in Big Flats, New York. A true friend to all she met along her journey through life. Always a hug of welcome! She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents (Mary and Henry Fisher), and brother (Henry Fisher, Jr.).
She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband, Reinhold Wind and their cats: Junior, Big Baby and Cali Baby. Son: Douglas Wind and a large extended family of loved ones.
Barbara was a graduate of East High School in Corning NY and Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Before retiring she was a Corporate Controller and HR Director with Arltec Hotel Corporation & Daniel Ross Law Offices in Chevy Chase MD. She continued those roles for several years after relocating to New Bern NC, in 2002.
After retirement as Controller & HR Director, she pursued activities which involved being around people, such as:
1. Alpenverein in New Bern which organized the New Bern Oktoberfest.
2. Riverbend Garden Club President.
3. Dog walker and pet sitter for many River Bend pets.
4. Community Watch of River Bend.
Later, because she loved being around people; she became a server with the catering businesses of Flame Catering and Strange & Sons Catering in downtown New Bern.
One of her favorite pastimes was watching the antics of the numerous animals (bears, birds, deer, squirrels, turkeys) that frequented their backyard. Of course, the cats were true companions and had their own personalities. Above all, she loved to hear Reinhold play the piano, especially the Viennese Waltz.
She enjoyed walking and spending time with friends. Barbara always had a smile and a hug for anyone she met. Due to her hotel and catering background, Barbara was always willing to help in the kitchen or where needed at social functions.
She rejoiced in worship at Centenary United Methodist Church (8:30am service), where the musicians, including Reinhold (Ron) on accordion, accompany the church family in song.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Centenary UMC on the corner of Middle & New Streets in New Bern.
The family will receive friends following the service with a light catered lunch in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Colonial Capital Humane Society or Centenary UMC Music Ministry.
Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Wind family.
