Betty R. Tracy

Retired piano teacher and musician Betty R (Weldon) Tracy 85 of New Bern died Wednesday August 3, 2016 at Home Place of New Bern. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church where she served as Choir Director and Organist for over 40 years. She was also a piano teacher and musician in New Bern for over 50 years. She played with the Al Louis Orchestra and provided music for many of the Civic Theatre productions and numerous weddings, funerals and church services throughout the community. She founded the Betty Weldon Quintet and the B T and Three Band. She started her music career at the age of 14 and began playing at the age of 5 and her music spanned over 80 years. Her wonderful music will be missed but has survived in the many students she impacted over the years.

She is survived by one son, David A. Weldon and wife Cheryl of Newton, two daughters, Linda T. Mathews and husband Russell of Portsmouth, VA, Tina W. Allen and husband Gary of New Bern, her grandchildren, Kelcie L. Weldon, Gary Allen, Jr., Lorina Allen, Jason, Weldon and Christina Wethington and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Cotten Funeral Home. A rosary will follow the visitation. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. Paul Catholic Church.
