Bruce was a classmate, fellow thespian, fellow singer, a friend through high school and into adulthood even as our paths separated us by miles. We only talked a few times by phone as middle-aged adults, but time didn't hinder the ease of conversation. Yes, Bruce was an entertaining actor with a wonderful voice, fun to rehearse or perform with, an engaging and encouraging mentor to many, and a genuine lover of life and learning, but above all, he was a great friend. As teenagers, we performed together often, engaged in sword fights (not fencing - he had those big, heavy swords!), engaged in knightly combat demonstrations to the amusement of his fellow National Creative Anachronism Society members, and enjoyed serving together at summer camp. All good times, but just hanging out was also worthwhile. Bruce was good at being a friend. Brilliant too. Fondly remembered and greatly missed.

I just got word of this sad news.  Sad for us who respected and loved him and were fortunate to have shared even a moment of time with him!  He truly was the Gentle Giant, Confidante, Supremely patient and humorous Teacher and No One could ask for a better more loyal and kind Friend.   He isn't gone. He is just crossed over the bar,... Bruce was one of the most awake and alive people I've encountered.  I'm so fortunate to have met him.  bruce is unforgettable.

I knew Bruce back in the day -- from Sunday School and then from High School Choir and drama productions.

He was a kind and gentle person, even at a young age. My thoughts are with Gayle and Mrs. Waugh, knowing how much they must miss him here.

I'm very sorry to read about the passing of Dr. Bruce Waugh. He was a remarkably kind man that truly cared about the students at Craven Community College. I will never forget that during an exceptionally busy period of his life, he came on board the "Voices of New Bern" project when he absolutely did not have to. He added a gravitas and a voice of professionalism to the film that simply no one else could have. Many of us had never even had a class with him, yet he still gave so freely of his time and energy. Thank you for everything, Bruce.

Bruce was an amazing colleague. He cared about people - and always had a way of finding positivity in the midst of challenging circumstances. I will miss his wit, his humor, and his friendship. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I loved his deep laugh and humor...he could find humor in just about everything. I had the pleasure of working with Bruce at Craven CC.  He was a consummate professional, inspiring instructor and dedicated advisor.  The Computer Science program was nationally recognized because of him.  He will be sorely missed.

Bruce was an amazing friend and will be deeply missed by the Cyber Security Community.  No job was too big or too small for Bruce our amazing colleague. From his deadpan human to his soft spoken way, one always felt special in his presence. Bruce was a big presence in so many ways. I worked with him for many years as part of the NCCIA leadership team, and appreciated the chance to know him.

One of the best people and teachers at CCC. It was a privilege to get to know him through a peer project sharing teaching techniques and sitting in on each others classes. I will miss seeing him when I come to campus and running into him at the orthopedic docs too.

Dr. Bruce Waugh was the person who helped me find my passion for Cybersecurity.  When I first met him, I was enrolled at Carteret Community College, in their networking program.  It took one conversation with Dr. Waugh to know that Craven Community College was where I wanted to be.  He kept pushing me to be the best. His belief in me was reciprocated with my admiration and respect.  Dr. Waugh knew that I could not afford to pay the cost of the CompTIA Security+ exam, so he found me a voucher.  I graduated with the honor of knowing one of the most brilliant minds, ever.  

Never in my life have I had an instructor that actually cared about my success, until Dr. Waugh.  I was so happy to tell him about my new career, and how I owe it to him.  He inspired me to take this path in my life.  He never gave up on me.  I looked up to him, and I'll never forget him.  

Rest in Peace, my dear friend. I wanted so badly to be able to look you up when I become Dr. Michael Thomas, so we could share a few stories. I'll always cherish your memory and respect your name.

Dr. Waugh was a great mentor and one of the best teachers I've had the privilege of working with.

Not only was Bruce a Dr. but he was also a Chef. His specialty that I like the most was chocolate mousse. He would whip up a batch to bring to his co-workers at Craven Community College and Bambi would get one or two. He would tell Bambi to bring one home to me but sometimes it never made it home. When I did get them, they were delicious. Bruce was a fine man and he will be greatly missed here on this present day earth.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. He was a very special human being and he had a heart of gold. I LOVED Bruce...his selection as a Community Fabric Awardee is a testament to the legacy he leaves behind. My Dearest Bruce....you will be missed but your spirit lives on...and your hugs meant the world to me. Thank you for being a part of my life and for your many contributions to the College.

Such a gentleman! He always welcomed impromptu office conversations accompanied by a private stash of chocolate. I loved his booming laugh and  the halls in our building will never sound the same. This is such a great loss. Rest In Peace my friend.

he was a very caring instructor and peer. it was clear he loved teaching.

Bruce was a man full of character and integrity.  I will miss him tremendously.  We both began our "full time" careers with Craven Community College the same time.  Rest easy my friend, and I still have the prescription you wrote for me!

My heart is heavy for your loss. I would only see Bruce a few times a year when he would come to HR at CCC to sign his extra contracts. His spirit touched me deeply with it's genuine warmth and beauty. I always enjoyed our brief but very real conversations. May God be with you all at this time. Too hard to believe that we've lost this part of our Craven CC family. Bruce will be missed. Peace and comfort in this sad time.

Craven Community College will not be the same without Dr. Waugh. He was a wonderful friend and mentor to everyone he met....

"He was a great teacher"  I'll never forget he told the class "What do you call the doctor that finishes last in their class?"  He said doctor. Dr. Waugh was trying to make a point and he said you don't ask your doctor what was his GPA.  I worked with Dr. Waugh and we will miss him.  Our office is right next to one of his classrooms and Dr. Waugh has such a voice that we new when he was teaching and sometimes listened to his lectures.  He was my friend.

The Craven Community College family is deeply saddened at the passing of Bruce.  His legacy will be the lives he touched through teaching and learning.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

This man was an amazing mentor and taught numerous students how to be IT professionals. His lectures and guidance will stay with me forever.
