Carl David Zamenski, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2025, surrounded by the comfort of the life he built with dedication and love. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Carl proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, which brought him to North Carolina—a place he would call home for the rest of his life.
A master carpenter and owner of a yacht restoration business, Carl poured countless hours into his work, driven by his commitment to provide for his family and ensure his children received a quality education. His skill and craftsmanship were matched only by the camaraderie he shared with his team members, who valued both his expertise and his friendship.
Carl found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader and sports enthusiast with a keen knack for statistics, he could talk for hours about the games he loved. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love of hunting, boating, and sitting peacefully in nature. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and animals, finding happiness in their companionship and energy.
Above all, Carl cherished conversation and connection. Whether discussing a favorite book, analyzing a game, or simply sharing stories, he brought warmth and engagement to every exchange.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Christie, and his daughters: Sara Marie Oglesby (David), Debra Michele Zamenski (Brian Baker), Amanda Jean Barrett (Josh), and Rachel Elaine Shamblin (Jeff). He was a devoted grandfather to Jacob and Shannon Oglesby, Hayley Shamblin, and Patrick, Darby, and Michael Barrett. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Laura Shannon Zamenski, his cherished grandchildren, Joshua David and Jonathan Russell Oglesby, his sister Elizabeth Szydlowski, and brother Glenn Zamenski.
A visitation for Carl will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 4:30 - 5 p.m.; with a Celebration of Life at 5:00 p.m. in the Cotten Funeral Home Chapel.
