Carol was born on February 15, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan to Bill and Louise Snyder. She married Leo Smith on June 13, 1959. She was a devoted wife to her husband, who was her junior high school sweetheart and they were married for 53 years before his passing. During their marriage, they moved multiple times with the military and finally settled in New Bern, NC.
Carol was a resilient woman, she never let anything get the best of her. She and Leo loved ceramics and painting. At one point of her life, believe it or not, she worked in a bar and was a police dispatcher and worked for the Red Cross. She was also an Eastern Star. Later in life, she gave her heart to the Lord in her 30's and she became an ordained minister, with the help of her husband- who didn’t believe in women ministers, yet still supported her through helping her study and researching the Bible for her sermons. She was very devoted to her church, Passion Church, in Vanceboro, NC for many years. If you knew our mother, she loved her Coca-Cola and in her final hours, she was thirsty and requested a “coke” and by all means, we gave it to her!
Carol was preceded in death by her spouse Leo and her parents and her brother.
Carol is survived by her four children; son; Micheal Smith and wife Brenda; daughters, Katherine Monroe, Sandra Knight, and Lisa Deininger and husband Thomas; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Carteret Health Care and Crystal Bluffs in Morehead City, NC for their exceptional care and support during our Mothers final days. Her life was a gift, her memory is a blessing, she is deeply loved and will be forever missed.
