Catherine Arrington Baptist

Catherine grew up in Beaufort, NC enjoying the quiet seaside town and outdoor activities including basketball, bicycling, water activities including boating, fishing, swimming and skiing in the 'Cut.

Catherine married Garry J Baptist from Morehead City in 1970 after graduating from Barton College, then known as Atlantic Christian College, in Wilson, NC with honors. She then began the adventure of various education positions starting with teaching in New Bern, NC and then at several other schools when she accompanied her husband, first to Savannah, GA and then in Cambridge, MD.

To complement teaching Catherine pursued advanced degrees in education and biology. Eventually she concentrated her teaching efforts toward outdoor education and headed the Environmental Education Program at the University of Maryland's Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge.

Catherine was a lifelong birdwatcher participating in Audubon Christmas Bird Counts and banding songbirds and Osprey over the years. She continued to enjoy outdoor activities such as jogging, hiking and canoeing. Catherine taught and practiced protecting the environment. She was also an avid reader like her mother, Louise Arrington.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Garry J Baptist, of the home; her sister, Susan Arrington Boyd (Rich) of Beaufort; her brother, Julian E. Arrington I| (Beth) of Beaufort; niece, Jennifer R. Arrington of Santa Monica, CA; nephew, Julian E. Arrington Ill of San Francisco, CA; niece, Margaret Arrington Mazza (Marc), and children Cam and Evie, with the USAF in Germany.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Edward T. and Louise M. Arrington.
