Catherine Marie Monid, known affectionately as Cathy, and Nana to her grandchildren, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the age of 89. She was a resident of New Bern, North Carolina. Born on June 19, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Cathy enjoyed long weekends at the beach and the mountains. She was very active in the Fairfield Harbor Community, participating in the Harbor Lights Players, swimnastics, and her Bible study group.
Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Al, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. She is survived by her two sons, James DeGroff of New Bern and John DeGroff, along with his fiancée Shameeza, of Union City. Her daughter, Alina Loux, and her husband Derek reside in Lake Hiawatha. Cathy also leaves behind three loving grandchildren: Courtney, Zachary, and Katie. Her brother Joseph Casazza and his wife Phyllis, as well as extended family members and many dear friends, mourn her passing.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
