After graduation, he landed his first job as a P.E. teacher at Moorestown Friends School in Moorestown, NJ, kicking off a 32-year career in education. He transferred to Palmyra School District in Palmyra, NJ where he taught P.E. and coached boys’ high school basketball and golf. He was an award-winning coach who was a master at teaching and motivating young men and was a force of nature, as anyone who knew him would attest. He was inducted into the New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1982.
He met Mary Elizabeth Van Stone, “Libby”, at church when they were teenagers, and they married in 1958, going on to have two sons, Brian and Ken. Chuck and Libby settled in Cinnaminson, NJ, in 1961, where they lived for 30 years.
After retiring in 1990, Chuck and Libby moved to Topsail Island, NC, and he spent his time playing golf, making furniture, and enjoying his model trains hobby. They later moved to Greenville, NC and lived there 15 years before moving to Holly Ridge, NC in 2012. After Libby passed away in 2013, Chuck moved to New Bern, NC, to be near Brian.
Chuck is predeceased by his parents and by his beloved wife, Libby. He is survived by his sons, Brian (Kim) of New Bern, NC, and Ken (Trish) of Huntersville, NC; his four grandchildren, Bailey Huebner of Huntersville, NC, Melissa DePuy (Corey) of Pittsburgh, PA, John Kennerly of Dallas, TX, and Brandon Solomon of Raleigh, NC; and his two great-grandchildren, Teagan and Tanner DePuy, of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
